Fido

I will be the first tell you that I hate Fido. As in the cell phone provider, not any particular dog. When I got my first cell phone with them, everything was fine, then *cough I lost that cell cough* and I had to get another one. When I went back to the same kiosk I had originally gone to, the crappy customer service and the manage who was rude to me, should have been my first clue to back away and go to another provider. I did part of that anyway...I did leave, but I went to Wireless Wave, a store that works through a bunch of a different providers as well as sells phone accessories and phones and whatever else they sell. I went there and I went back to Fido.

It was stupid of me, but whatever. That is not the point of the story so moving on now. At first everything was fine. I was on a cheap plan, I had my voicemail and call display and everything was good. But then my long distance started to rack up, thanks to someone who shall remain nameless. So my phone bill got higher and higher and I started struggling to pay my bills, but I managed to always make a payment on the first of the month. Once in awhile, Fido would cut off my cell service and I would get it turned back on and continue on my way finding another job.

Cut to a year later (give or take, because not even the tools at Fido apparently know when I got this phone...was it September? Was it January? Who knows?"

Last week, I spoke to three different Fido tools. Each one telling me a different amount that was due (not the first time this has happened) Finally I spoke to someone who not only credited my account $25.00 but also assured me that if I made a minimum payment of $40.00 my cell service would once again be safe from being cut off. Fine, I made yet another $40.00 payment for this billing period.

Yesterday I got a phone call from someone at Fido asking if I would like to make a payment. I explained that "No I would not like to make a payment." I also gave my whole spiel about how I'm not working and only have so much money to work with and how i thought paying my rent was somewhat more important." My conversation with her ended with me stating that, two people I spoke with last week had basically lied to me when saying that if I made a minimum $40.00 payment, my service would be uninterrupted, because she was now telling me that no that was not the case and I would lose service on the 10th. Fantastic...NOT!

She transfered me to someone else who would be able to tell me how much it would cost to get out of my contract with them, because as I told her, I was sick of the bullshit and crappy customer service and I want out of my damn contract with them.

The next person I spoke to, was just as infuriating. Told me it would cost anywhere from $100-$300 to get out of my contract. Couldn't give me an exact amount though..he kept telling me the same stuff over and over again and I told him I want an exact amount, so he put me on hold so he could get someone who would be able to tell me an exact amount. After being on hold for like 15 minutes (I wish I was kidding) during which he came on the line no less than 4 times to apologize for the wait and to clarify when I got my phone, even though it was already established that neither of us had a freaking clue.

Finally, a manager came on the line and asked me to tell him the situation. He also wanted to know what my problems with Fido were. I asked him how much time he had, cus the problems were numerous. He laughed and said to start at the beginning, so I did. Afterwards, he said he could wipe about half of the amount owing on my bill. He then asked me some questions and apologized a bunch of times and then he asked me to hold for a second. When he came back on the line, he said he was going to wipe the whole amount and then he suggested looking at my plan, because part of the problem was my plan and my minutes. I upgraded my plan to include an extra 250 minutes for $10.00/month which should cut my overage every month.

So now, I'm not as pissed with Fido. I'm still not pleased with all the bullshit and crap I had to deal with and quite frankly the customer service still sucks, but at least for now I have a solution.

This Is It

On October 28, I went to see "This Is It" with my friend Amanda. It was something we had been planning for awhile and I got tickets shortly after they went on sale and we wanted to go to the midnight showing the day it opened, but logistics didn't exactly work in our favour, so we settled for the 7:00 p.m. showing the day it opened. We got there early and even then the theatre was packed. It was kind of amazing the age range of people that were there--there were older people, people closer in age to Amanda and I, and probably the most surprising quite a few kids (who granted were probably only there because of their parents, but still).

Anyway, the day it opened (in LA) there was a huge premier including members of the Jackson Family and a bunch of celebs (obviously). Google also participated by changing their banner to reflect The King of Pop.

The movie itself was pretty freaking awesome. We had some idea of what to expect, but it was so much more than that too. This Is It, showed Michael Jackson in rehearsals for his upcoming concerts and gave fans a look at MJ that had he not passed away, we never would have gotten to see. After seeing the movie I was reading other reviews online and as some people wrote, the movie also showed "what could have been"...had he not passed away, the actual concerts themselves would have no doubt been amazing. Some people have also stated that, while the movie shows fans a brief look at what the concerts would have been, it's also highly likely that Michael Jackson would not be pleased with such a "rough" look at his rehearsals being put into a movie and released such as they were. Maybe that is true, but as someone who has had the same Jackson 5 CD since high school, and almost every Michael Jackson song recorded on my computer and iPod, I'm glad it was released as a movie. I never would have gotten the chance to see him perform live and while this definitely isn't the same thing, it was a pretty good alternative.

In its first night in theaters, This Is It made an estimated $2.2 million, with Sony projecting it would go on to make about $40 million in the first weekend.

Weekend Gross: $23,234,394 (estimate was $21.5 million)
Total Domestic Gross (as of 11/2/09): $36,898,026
International Gross (as of 11/2/09): $69,463,206

Overall, This Is Is made a Worldwide Gross of about $106,361,232 (estimate was $101 million) .

A few days after the movie opened, Director Kenny Ortega said in an interview that the DVD would also include about 2-3 hours extra footage, that wasn't seen in theaters.

Amanda and I were talking about when the DVD would be released. Think it's safe to assume it'll hit stores just in time for Christmas...lol...and I definitely want it..hint hint :)

Sleepless Nights

I am not a good sleeper, to put it bluntly. I don't think I ever was and I probably never will be.

I have trouble falling asleep, I have trouble staying asleep and I've been told I talk (and apparently yell and swear at people in my sleep as well) and sleepwalk (which could explain my mystery bruises and scratches. The last three nights have been the worst "sleepless" nights I've had in awhile. Even after I take a sleeping pill, it still takes me sometime to fall asleep-if I even manage to fall asleep. Me falling asleep around 5, 6 or even 7 in the morning has been a fairly regular occurrence lately and a few nights ago I didn't sleep at all. Even after not sleeping at all the night before, the following night I didn't fall asleep until about 3-3:30 and even then it was not a deep sleep at all. I was totally aware of all the noises around me. The cat, the traffic outside (I live near a highway), the wind/rain, my sister getting up at 5:40 because apparently the cat was gagging, the guy who lives upstairs walking around--everything--and it sucked. And now, at 3:02 a.m. I am still awake despite taking a sleeping pill and a half.

I think it's time to pull out the sleep cd's I made awhile ago--has ocean sounds--waves, gulls, whales/dolphins--rainforest sounds--birds, wind etc--and my favorites thunderstorms/rain "songs".

Now I am turning my laptop off again and going to try to sleep. Again.

A very long and overdue update

Okay so clearly I suck...lol...It's been so long since I've updated I actually had to go back read the last few posts just to see what I had last written about. Anyway, because I have not slept in something like 30 hours (give or take) this post will be short and somewhat bulleted. But hey, it's better than nothing....right?

Painting/New House Update:
All done paint-wise, and as far as I know the majority of other new house stuff is done too. Went back up before the Open House thingie and finish stuff like new flooring in the attic bathroom and getting food ready and all that fun stuff.

Job Update:
I did finally find a job (although it was a temporary contract position) with the Campus Bookstore. Was (for the most part) fun. Met a few nice people and some who if I never see them again it would be awesomely perfect. Really good friends with one of the girls still, where a lot of the people we worked with thought we've known each other for awhile. Anyway that job was scheduled to end Oct 2, but because the bookstore slowed down so much the managers decided to end some of the contracts early.

So now I am back to looking for a job, but at least there seems to be more job postings and positions available that I'm better qualified for. Compared to last summer there is definitely more out there, so crossing fingers it won't take too long to find another job.

Prince Winslow the Dipstick Update:
When the hell did he get so big? Seriously, it seems like overnight he went from being small and fluffy to being a grown cat who weighs a freaking ton. I shall take a photo or two and try to get them posted soon. Might even do a before/after thing, since I have TONS of photos of him from when he was just a teeny tiny thing.

Miscellaneous:
So yeah, not much going on. Just the job search thing and of course my countdowns. I have tickets to see "This Is It" (the Michael Jackson movie, for those who have no idea). My friend Amanda (my friend from the bookstore) and I are going next Wednesday (totally can't wait!!!) and following that comes the release of New Moon (part of the Twilight Saga) in November. Both Amanda and I are looking forward to getting tickets for that too. Hmmmm maybe I'll have to get some actual countdowns posted on here somewhere...lol.

And now I am going to clean or something. Anything to stay awake until at least 8-9 tonight, so that I have a decent shot of getting a normal night's sleep. Psssssht...I can dream

Finally home...and still covered in paint

On Friday, Jess and I took the Greyhound to Peterborough to help paint Mom and Ross' new house. It was a very long weekend and I ended up getting covered in paint--all over my feet, legs, arms and in my hair. We've all got paint on us, but still. At least most of the "oh so fugly" colours that the house was originally painted are gone. The main floor and the attic are now painted in Cottage White (although I took to calling it buttercream, so it would seem less boring) and have a pinkish/purple colour trim.

There's still the second floor left to do but we didn't get that far this weekend, but we did get quite a bit done, so I think it was all good. Considering we took a few hours off last night to out for dinner for Jessa's birthday we did manage to get a considerable amount of painting done and I'm not sure about everyone else, but I'm exhausted.

We took the bus home a few hours ago (the trip via Greyhound bus is a little over an hour) and came home to find two piles of cat vomit (thanks Winslow you furry little bugger) and a couch cushion with huge chunks of foam ripped out. Apparently his scratching post just isn't cutting it for him, cus he's taken to scratching the carpet, the walls, the couch cushions and me laterly. It's truly annoying although not as much as the throwing up. We've tried switching foods a bunch of times and still he throws up....it's less now than it was before but still. It's gross and quite frankly a waste of money, so now we're talking about either 1. trying the vet's brand of food and/or 2. taking him to the vet to get checked out. Still up in the air, so we'll see...have to see how much an appointment would be.

And now I am going to bed. I'm exhausted and have to work tomorrow--although I don't start until 2, so that's kinda good.

First Day of Work

Yes I know I suck at updating, but now that I'm working hopefully I shall be updating more. I'm sure working in a college bookstore will provide me with many stories and whatever to post.

Anyway, first off I am unbelievably exhausted. Everything went okay today with my first day of work at the Durham College, UOIT and Trent in Oshawa Campus Bookstore...they did a lot of training--went over a lot of information regarding policies, cash, working in the stacks, they had us practice on the cash registers under training mode and a bunch of other stuff. It all seems pretty straightforward, but trying to find textbooks and stuff is a little bit of a pain (especially for us shorties...lol), but it's all good. There was 5 of us starting today, so that was cool too.

They also gave us our schedule for next week through first week of October, so that's helpful...for the most part. This week all the trainees are working 9-3, but next week is going to blow hardcore for me though, since out of the new people, I'm the first to get the "oh so lucky" 6 a.m. start shift. On my way home I found out that neither of the two buses I take to get to work run that early (I have to leave the house about an hour before my shift starts to get there on time), so trying to sort out cab fare and whatnot in order to make it work.

I was so tired by the time I got home, that after I made Jessa and I dinner I ended up crashing on the couch for an hour then woke up long enough to watch an episode and a half of Wizards of Waverly Place (yes I was WOWP and I will admit I was Hannah Montana too, but that's besides the point...lol) then crashed again on the couch until about 8:30. Now I'm just waiting for my sleeping pill to kick in so I can get back to sleep. The falling asleep on the couch was entirely unintentional, but oh well.

Next week, we're expecting to get oh so busy with more students being on campus even though classes don't start for a few more weeks, but middle of August is apparently when it starts to get crazy busy and apparently doesn't really slow down much until October or so.

But right now my eyes are burning from exhausted and my sleeping pill is totally starting to kick it, so I am going to bed...or I am as soon as I finally get around to updating my blog...aka. posting pretty much the exact same article on my blog...lol..I'm just so darned lazy.

Tornado Jess

I spent the entire time Jess was gone (from Saturday June 27-Sunday July 5) cleaning. She's like a fricking human tornado. I was gone for a about a week shortly before she left...she did very minimal cleaning while I was gone. That was not entirely unexpected, so I knew I would have my work cut out for me when I got back.

Now I don't claim to be the neatest or most organized person in the world (my bedroom would be the best example--consider it organized chaos) but I do make an effort to keep the rest of the place at least clean and whatever.

So while she was gone, I cleaned the living room, moved some furniture, cleaned off the two desks and tried to organize the stuff from them (papers, games etc)...I also cleaned the kitchen--mopped, did all the dishes (which I HATE HATE HATE doing...and I will admit I usually hold off doing the dishes as long as when I'm home by myself, but they do get done at least every few days regardless.

I also cleaned the bathroom and scrubbed down the sink and mirror and the floor.

Jessica got home yesterday and within SECONDS of walking in the door, she dumped her suitcase, duffel bag and knapsack on the living room floor and after playing with the cat and showing him off to our cousin and one of our cousin's friend, she proceeded to "unpack" her bags...ALL OVER THE LIVING ROOM FLOOR....then she left them there...

I tried to bribe her and I whined at her and then I ignored it...I did tell her to move them at least to one side and I would do her laundry for her. It didn't get done and yes mother you can say she manipulated me or whatever, but I ended up doing her laundry this morning anyway, even though she didn't move them. At least this way I can fold them and get them the hell out of the way, because quite frankly I'm klutzy enough without have to make my way through the Jessica Tornado Obstacle Course. I trip over flat surfaces and walk into doors and corners on a daily basis so I don't need the extra crap for me to trip over.

Besides, last night she made watch The 10th Kingdom. And for anyone who hasn't seen it or heard of it, I swear it has got to be one of the longest effing movies ever made. We started watching it around 3-3:30 and finished it around 10:30. As part of the deal for me watching it she has to watch Twilight tonight, and considering how much she's against all things Twilight, me doing two loads of her laundry on top of her having to watch the movie is fair enough.

I wonder how long it'll take her to destroy my hard work again tonight. I swear she manages to make huge messes just by sitting on the couch...I don't know how she does it, but geez she is a very talented slob. LOL
